Meet our Brewmaster.

In 1995, while attending a Craft Brewers conference in Portland, Ore., a hand-written note on a 3 x 5 card caught Darron Welch's eye.  The note had been pinned to a bulletin board by Jeff Schons and Mary Jones, co-owners of the Pelican Pub & Brewery, announcing the search for a brewer at Jeff and Mary's new oceanfront pub in Pacific City.  You can guess what happened next.

 

A native Oregonian who grew up in Eugene, Darron made the move back to the Pacific Northwest and was instrumental in design of the Pelican, taking part in the brewery layout, production flow and of course, the acclaimed Pelican beers.

 

Darron's vast knowledge of beer both from years of homebrewing and his assistant brewer position at the Appleton Brewing Company in Wisconsin has led the way for what is now countless regional, national and international awards for his Pelican beers.  He has become a highly respected Brewmaster and continues to experiment with new ways to impress his beer fans.

 

Darron's knowledge doesn't just lie in beer, however.  He works closely with the Pelican's culinary team so that the beer and food are working together in the best way possible. He is also active in reviewing each dish on the menu several times a year to ensure each beer pairing listed is still the best fit.
